I've always loved sewing - my grandmother taught me on an antique Singer machine when I was about 10 years old - so I thought I'd experiment with machine sewing a composition that I would typically paint on a stretched canvas. This study was made from scrap fabric that I had around the studio, pieced together to resemble a brise soleil, and hangs loosely around a wood frame. The fabric is discreetly attached to the frame, which you cannot see from any angle. So the fabric piece appears to float on the wall. I left the extra fabric around the edges because I liked how soft and loose it made the piece appear.
